Introducing from the Murf Lable The Quality of Murphy
As anyone who ever saw Noel during his forty-plus years of gleeful gallivanting across the folk scene will confirm, an evening with Murphy was an undiluted pleasure. As is this double CD, which (of course) opens with 'The Folker', before plunging into a further forty cracking tracks. All the old favourites are present and incorrect, including the original version of 'The Bricks'; the deliriously comical 'The Vicar and The Frog'; and (yippee!) 'Dinny Burns'. But there has always been a more reflective , side to Murf, with the 'The Old Man's Tale', 'From Clare To Here' and 'The Tinkerman's Daughter' being definitive versions of much-covered songs. It's this ability to handle darker and more challenging pieces that nicely complements Noel's justifiably legendary comic material. ------------------------------------ Most of the tracks on the album were recorded live between 1966 and 2002, however Noel and his team have done a brilliant job of making a record that sounds like one marathon session. Also excellent is a 16-page booklet with some cracking photos and tributes from a few of the many artists and others who hold Noel in such high esteem. ----------------------------------- 'The Quality of Murphy' Available from 'The Murf Lable' P.O.
